THE HEAVE OF DESPAIR

Lower airway diseases of horses are among the most common conditions encounteres by equine veterinarians. Respiratory problems are frequently implicated in horses as a cause of poor sportive performances. The most frequently occurring lower respiratory tract disorders are heaves, inflammatory airway disease and exercise - induced pulmonary haemorrhage (EIPH).

THE INHALED ROUTE TO FREEDOM

The characteristics of the equine airways and patterns of breathing are well suited to inhalation therapy. The horse's large tidal volume and high flow rate encourage aerosol deposition deep within the lung. Also, because the horse is an obligate nasal breather, it cannot mouth breathe to bypass an inhalation device placed on the nose.

Aerosal administration of agonist bronchodilators is advantageous because the therapeutic index is very large and the equine clinician can choose from a large dose range, tailoring therapy to individual horses.

For the immediate relief of bronchospasm and bronchoconstriction associated with reversible obstruction in horses.
